When European-car importer Max Hoffman suggested to Porsche that the American audience might like a cheaper, open-top version of the company's 356, Stuttgart responded with the Speedster. And while every Porsche partisan is a special snowflake -- some love road-going racers like the 904, others can't imagine life without a roof-rack-equipped 912, others go gaga for anything with a legit, lift-off Targa top, and some folks just really, really, really love 924s -- the Speedster's the light, lovable kid brother for which any fan of the marque has a measure of affection. A new track-focused, road-legal supercar from Mexican manufacturer Vuhl – the VUHL o5 – will launch at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Supercar companies spring up all over the place with men in sheds thinking they can take on established supercar makers and take a part of the supercar market in the process. Most fail to get beyond CAD renderings of their dream, but a new Supercar company from Mexico – Vuhl – has the help of established automotive industry names like Ford and Magna Steyr, and they’re promising to reveal their new car – the VUHL 05 – at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in July.
A survey released this week suggests that revised fuel economy labels proposed by federal regulators will confuse many likely car buyers -- and will emphasize the wrong information. The branding strategy firm Siegel+Gale performed an independent online survey of 456 people over the age of 18 who intended to buy a car in the next three years. Founder Alan Siegel told Automotive News that the survey was not directly requested but has been sent to the EPA and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration during the ongoing public comment period.
